The Fair Credit Reporting Act gives you very powerful tools that can assist you with updating and cleaning up credit issues.  Be very wary of any company or person who claims that it/he/she can remove accurate items from a credit report.  This is usually a sign of a scam.  When handled properly, though, incorrect or old items can be removed or corrected in a way that your credit score can recover in a predictable time frame.
